I made this personalized hanger for my baby niece who was just born as a funny, cute way to remember how my 4 yo daughter named her "Rainbow Gotters" while my sister was pregnant.  During the pregnancy, Rainbow Gotters kind of became the baby's name until she was born and although her parents gave her a beautiful name, my daughter was a little upset when she found out Rainbow Gotter's wasn't going to be her real name...because that's the name SHE picked out and that SHE wanted her to have.  So we said that it could be her special cousin name for her.  This personalized hanger would be a cute baby name gift for real names too :)

 Trace the outline of the wood hanger on the back of your decorative paper.  repeat for both sides and then cut out the hanger shape from the paper. set aside.

 Paint the sides of the hanger and the front and back if you like.  (although that will be covered by the paper so isn't really necesarry)

Once paint is dry, using a foam brush, apply an even coat of modgepodge over the wooden hanger.  Carefully line up the precut paper and press onto the hanger, smoothing the surface.  Allow that to dry and then repeat on the back side.

Now, using your letter stickers,  personalize the hanger by adding the baby's (or whoever's) name and embelishing with gems or other stickers.

Tree Branch Decor for Girls Room

I got this tree branch from our backyard after a recent storm and wanted to put it in my girls room.  Her room is a slow work in progress but it's coming along!  The bedroom theme a nature theme with birds and butterflies and her colors are yellow, pink and blue (her choice).  I was shopping around looking for a cheap vase or urn to put the branches in that would be cute, but I just could not find anything that was really worth buying let alone a good price at all.  After a bunch of looking around at tall vases, I gave up and then in that moment of giving up, this idea popped in my mind.  I could MAKE a cheap tall vase with poster board...So here it is.



Supplies:

2 coordinating or matching colors of poster board (my daughter wanted purple and pink)
modge modge or spray adhesive
stapler
small cup
pencil
scissors
glue gun/ or other strong adhesive


Cover the entire back side of the poster board with modge podge or spray glue

 Lay the other poster board on top and press and smooth the surface.

 To create the scalloped edge along the top of the vase, take a small cup and trace the curves in a straight line as pictured below (along the width of the board).  Trace your scalloped edge on the color that will be the inside of your vase so you don't see any remaining pencil marks on the outside.

 Cut along your traced lines to create the scalloped edge.

 Roll the poster board up to create a cylinder and line up the scalloped top edges.  Secure with a staple.

 Secure with a staple at the top and bottom to create you tall cylinder vase.

 Along the edge, secure fully with the glue gun.

 I placed the tree branch in an old smaller vase and put some rocks in the bottom to keep it from tipping over.

 Then slipped it inside the tall cylinder vase....

It WORKS!

 And it cost less than $2

 I am planning to make some birds to put in the branches but I'm trying to think if there is anything I should add to the vase, perhaps some rossettes, fabric flowers, ric rac...??? ... hmm....I'll keep thinking and let you know if and when I get around to it...for now I'm happy with it the way it is and more importantly, my 4 year old was SO thrilled when she saw this in the corner of her room.  She thinks it's AMAZING!  sometimes it doesn't take much to please them does it?  And if she thinks this simple cheap vase is great, then I'm happy to have the money to put towards other projects!

Let's Make a Cake!

we'll need some milk for the cake...some cream for the frosting...

I'm such a dork sometimes...I get compelled to save all kinds of packages and containers because they could potentially be used to make something cool.  Before our move, I was sorting through everything and found quite a bit a "trash" that I had saved around our apartment...and forgotten about...just adding clutter and I tossed it rather than packing it...albeit it wasn't easy....so when my husband was about to throw these two honey containers in the recycle, I stopped him and said "I could use those for something!" and he put them back on the counter...but I promised myself I wasn't going to let the junk sit around this time so without any further ado...I quickly used them for something...TADA...gotta love those projects that provide instant gratification!

Those green baskets were also rescued from the recycle bin, our local grocery store sells strawberries in them.

soak the container in some soapy water so the label is easy to remove...

 Get your stuff...
modgepodge and brush
white paper
scissors
stick on craft letters (or use a marker to write the letters, or cut them out with construction paper or use your cricut or silhouette if you are a spoiled crafter! :P)

I trimmed a long strip of paper to fit the container to make a new label.

Apply paper and press

stick on your craft letters...I had these stick on craft felt letters lying around, i bought them to make my halloween banner, but they were too small and I ended up cutting my own.

That's it! :)

I love when my daughter gets excited over stuff like this...a kid sized milk jug...I mean it was free and recycled and she gets new stuff to play with without being spoiled! lol!  WIN!

Lace Tealight

Okay so here are some awesome projects I just came across today that are going on the "I've gotta make this!" list!

These charming Lace Tealights from Mint are just so pretty and simple to create and make for a perfect gift or favor! You can view the tutorial HERE. I've never really paid much attention to doilies not thought of any ways to use them beside letting my daughter glue them into her little collages, but now I'm going to be keeping an eye out! I already have someone in mind who would adore receiving one of these pretty little things!
