Copy Kids Eat Your Veggies DVD Review and Giveaway

COPY KIDS
Review and Giveaway
Get Kids Hooked on Eating Fruits and Vegetables

The premise behind Copy Kids Eat Fruit and Vegetables is that young children are more willing to try new fruits and vegetables when they see another child eating them.  I believe this idea is totally valid because I have witnessed this myself with my own kids.  My older daughter always eats better when she's around her older cousins and my 2 year old son who shows little interest in sitting at the table and eating, will sit and eat a meal, even food he's consistently refused before, when we have interesting company over (i.e grandparents, aunts or uncles - but unfortunately non of them live close by).  So I was very excited for the opportunity to review the Copy Kids DVD.

J wanted to make a movie of her eating her veggies just like "those kids"

I told my daughter I had a new movie to watch she had never seen before and didn't tell her the name of it.  The first two comments she made as we watched the Copy Kids DVD were

"I want a pepper!" and "I want to copy her!"

While watching the Copy Kids DVD my 5 year old daughter ate a whole bell pepper and my 2 year old son was munching on bell pepper too...he kept spitting it out after a while, but he wanted to keep trying it because he thought it was fun to eat it while watching the kids on the DVD enjoy and have fun eating their vegetables.  It's a good start considering before seeing this DVD he wouldn't even TRY bell pepper (and it's been offered plenty as we often have slices of raw bell pepper at dinner).

Then my daughter wanted to eat a bunch of cucumber followed by 3 enormous carrots.  She got too full and couldn't finish all 3 but she ate most of 2.  She planned on eating raw broccoli after the carrots but she got too full.

Here's what my kids were saying while watching Copy Kids Eat Fruit and Vegetables

"I WANT A PEPPER TOO!"

"I WANT TO COPY HER!" (she didn't know the name of the video was "copy kids")

"I want to copy those kids!"

"LOOK! He likes that!" (avocado)

"Can I eat those?"

"Today I'm going to eat ALL the vegetables that they're eating"

"LOOK!!!  They LIKE them!"

"AJSDLKJEWRNJHAJjadfsajslfjasf!!!!!" (I couldn't understand her mouth was stuffed with peppers)

"I'm going to eat cucumbers after that (peppers) and then watch the cucumber movie when I eat cucumbers mom"

the shocking part was my finicky 2 year old grabbing slices of bell pepper and demanding "MORE MOO-EE!!! MORE MOO-EE!" and nibbling on the pepper (MOO-EE means Movie) as the movie had gone to the menu after the bell pepper segment had finished.

The Copy Kids DVD shows kids of various ages having fun and enjoying their food.  It is cute and the sound effects and style of it reminds me a little of the Baby Einstein series, which kids really enjoy.  The evening ended with my kids fighting over the bell pepper strips.  As much as my kids enjoyed and were fascinated by this video and inspired to chow on some raw veggies, watching little children/toddlers eat is not all that appetizing to me.  When the toddlers in the video were scarfing down avocado in HD on my big screen, it made me want to gag...despite that, overall the video is very cute, fun and makes my kids want to eat more fruits and vegetables so it's got two thumbs up in my book!  Just make sure you have a selection of fruits and vegetables on hand before you put this on or your kids might be upset...they want to COPY THE KIDS while watching it!

Ever feel like a P.O.S? oh yeah and the winner is...

Feeling like a P.O.S Lately?
I know I am...

So last week I finally figured out what Pinterest is all about and I now must confess I have turned into a P.O.S....oh no you didn't think I was being a self hater did ya?  I mean...Pinterest Ob-Sessed....I can not stop pinning things, I can't even figure out the best way to categorize my pin boards so I have a bunch of boards and sometimes pin things 2 or 3 times because they apply to multiple pin boards.  One thing I LOVE about pinning things now is that I don't have to have 80 bazillion tabs open on 5 different windows on my desktop, so when hubby comes home and gets on the computer to look at one thing isn't like "holy crap you are crazy!" as he tries to downsize the million things I have open.  Now, if I see something I'm interested in....pin it and close it....no keeping tabs open to look at things later...pinterest does that for me! YAY!  Also so much easier than bookmarking a gazillion things too...because when I go through my bookmarks...I have to open up a bunch of stuff till I actually find what I'm looking for!  Last week I pinned a ton of staircase wall decor and design ideas...Some of my more full pinboards include Art Inspiration, Owls, The Home, Landscape and Garden, Things for my Wall,  and lots more!  You can check out all my boards and pins Here...

And now can I have a drum roll please......

Win it Wednesday - E Custom Card Giveaway!

Win it Wednesday
with
E Custom Cards

I'm excited to announce today an exciting giveaway to one of you lucky readers!  I recently met Erin, an awesome artist with a unique style who runs a funky custom card business and she has offered to give away one of her E Custom Cards (The E is for Erin) to one of you!  Check out some of her previous orders

Here is a little bit about her and what the giveaway includes:

Hey, I love social networking as much as the next girl, but getting a thousand happy birthday wishes on your wall just isn't the same as getting a real paper card in the mail. Getting a gift in the mail is exciting and special, especially when it's a card that is all about you! E Custom Cards are real paper cards, totally personalized, hand drawn, and one of a kind.

I started E Custom Cards in February 2011 soon after my son's first birthday. I had the same dream that everyone dreams: to do something I love, get paid for it, and be able to spend time with my family too... so I decided to make my dream come true. The real joy in making E Custom Cards is in delivering something truly special, fun, and personal to each of my customers - and the best part of my job is when someone tells me how much they loved getting their card in the mail!

                                                                                                         -Erin

THANKS ERIN!

Mom and Baby Portrait

Portrait of Mom and Baby, Pencil

I finally got this portrait done recently and have been waiting to post it on here since I wanted my winner, Crystal from the hit mom blog Wanna Be Balanced, to be surprised when she received it.  She was the winner of my custom portrait giveaway I held.....let's just say it was a while ago.  Anyways, we all know how it is with little ones to sit down and complete a bigger project, especially one like this because I need a good chunk of time to just sit down and focus on it without interruption.  I was feeling a little rusty when I pulled out the art supplies, but as you can see I had such a cute picture to work with, I was really happy with how it turned out!  Thanks Crystal for being so patient with me, I'm sure you probably figured it wasn't going to happen! lol!

Turkey Enchiladas!

So, after a lot of Thanksgiving leftover dinners and turkey sandwhiches, we used up the remaining dark meat (which we don't really enjoy) and made Turkey Enchiladas.  This is one of our favorite recipes, I always get positive feedback when I make it (normally with chicken).  It's from my trustee Better Homes and Garden Cookbook, a staple for every kitchen!

  • 1/4  cup  slivered almonds
  • 1/4  cup  chopped onion
  • 2  tablespoons  butter or margarine
  • 1  4-ounce can  diced green chile peppers, drained
  • 1  3-ounce package  cream cheese, softened
  • 1  tablespoon  milk
  • 1/4  teaspoon  ground cumin
  • 2  cups  chopped cooked chicken or turkey
  • 12  7-inch  flour tortillas or 6-inch corn tortillas
  • 1  10.75-ounce can  reduced-fat condensed cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup
  • 1  8-ounce carton  light dairy sour cream
  • 1  cup  milk
  • 3/4  cup  shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese (3 ounces)
  • 2  tablespoons  slivered almonds

Directions

1. In a medium skillet cook the 1/4 cup almonds and the onion in hot butter over medium heat until onion is tender and nuts are lightly toasted. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the canned green chile peppers; reserve remaining peppers for sauce.
2. In a medium bowl stir together cream cheese, the 1 tablespoon milk, and the cumin; add nut mixture and chicken. Stir until combined. Spoon about 3 tablespoons of the chicken mixture onto each tortilla near an edge; roll up. Place filled tortillas, seam side down, in a greased 3-quart rectangular baking dish. Set aside.
3. For sauce, in a medium bowl combine the reserved chile peppers, the soup, sour cream, and the 1 cup milk. Pour evenly over the tortillas in the baking dish. Cover with foil. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven about 35 minutes or until heated through. Remove foil. Sprinkle enchiladas with cheese and the 2 tablespoons almonds. Return to oven; bake about 5 minutes more or until cheese melts. Makes 6 servings.

AND I forgot to tell you guys, because I was so busy with sick kids and company at the time, but I won a giveaway over at Wanna Be Balanced Mom, and received my lace shirt today and LOVE it!  Thank you Crystal!  She always has great giveaways, and has another sweet giveaway going on right now that ends tomorrow so CHECK IT OUT!

Mama’s Holiday Wish List Meme

I've been a bit absent recently due to having one of my best friends visiting which has been AWESOME!  Anyways, I was catching up on email and saw this awesome Mama's Holiday Wishlist 2010 giveaway on TodaysMama.  The prizes are SWEET and I had to give it a shot!  If you'd like to enter, copy and past the holiday wish list on your blog and answer the questions and then link up your post here.

Mama’s Holiday Wish List

TodaysMama (link to: http://bit.ly/tmwishlist) and GameStop (link to: http://bit.ly/gamestop10) are giving away a sleighful of gifts this holiday season and to enter I’m sharing this meme with you.

1. What is your holiday wish for your family? That we'll know if the timing is right to move into our first house and that we could find a "perfect" little house for us.
2. What is your Christmas morning tradition? This year will be the first Christmas as our own little family unit, we have always been with my family and my husbands family on Christmas.  Normally, the kids wake up early, open stockings then lounge around or go back to sleep until adults wake up, then we all open presents, we never really took turns watching  each other open up one at time because that would take forever at my parents house with all the people but at my husband's parents house we do it that way.  Then we have a huge breakfast with tons of food.
3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?A new car with more presents on the inside like a spa day gift package, a starbucks gift card, and a babysitter!
4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?  We make a lot of homemade gifts and decor.  We also do outdoor winter activities like sledding, going up to the mountains to pick out a christmas tree (before we moved here), driving around looking for neighborhoods with good christmas lights, watching classic holiday movies and having a good supply of cocoa on hand.
5. What games did you play with your family growing up? Monopoly and Balderdash
6. What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood? Open one present on Christmas Eve, usually PJ's.
7. Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?  Somewhere snowed in with a mountain backdrop, like Leavenworth, WA, or any ski resort along the rocky mountains in British Columbia, Utah or Colorado.  Christmas in New York or Paris would also be very beautiful for a non-secluded Christmas setting with all the lights and Christmas shopping and festivities.
8. Check out GameStop (link to: http://bit.ly/gamestop10) and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year?

Giveaway Winner and Day 4 of AEDM

And the winner to my custom portrait giveaway is comment number 12 made by Crystal Escobar from Wanna Be Balanced.   CONGRATULATIONS!!!

So...as for AEDM (art every day month), It's been slow starting because of that darn organizational guru who had to get me all inspired to do major cleaning/organization around here.  Yesterday I set some unrealistic goals for myself...I was going to clean out and reorganize my walk in closet, get the rest of the room perfect, then have lunch with the kids, then during nap I was going to either paint a trypdict that I've been planning on doing forever to go above my bed...or make the stroller seat cover, then have dinner/play with the kids, go to the gym real quick, come home, after putting the kids to bed, I would do all the ironing and when my husband arrived home from his road trip, everything would be absolutely perfect.  Well....um...WHAT was I thinking?  It went more like this...

I took everything out of the closet, my room looked like a hurricane had gone through with piles of everything everywhere...sorted through things, decided what to keep, what to pack away and what to get rid of, folded everything up, reorganized and made it more fall/winter oriented.  I was only half way through the pile by lunch time.  Then I put the baby down for a nap (in my room) so went and sat on the couch to eat a snack while I waited for him to get into a deeper sleep before starting back up...but I guess I blinked and didn't open my eyes until about 2 hours later when the kids started waking up from naps.  No regrets!  Anyways....I struggled to finish getting the closet put away and besides doing some dishes...nothing else on my list got done...I didn't even get to go online the whole day!!!  lol.  But if you could see my closet now, you would consider it a work of art! ha!  The art of homemaking right?  Am I stretching the rules a bit too much here on this one?
I'm going to blame my baby boy on my slow progress, he's just so darn cute I had to keep stopping and playing with him and smothering him in kisses as he played around my feet all morning cooing at me!

Okay, well I'm off to get some "art" done today, I'll be back!

Congrats again Crystal, I can't wait to get started on your portrait!

Kick my Butt - Giveaway!

So the end of last week I was feeling like amping up my gym routine a bit and take the Body Combat class instead of my usual interval workout on the elliptical while flipping channels.  (I couldn't even walk during my pregnancy due to pubis symphisis seperation so) by the time I had the baby I was completely out of shape, and although I've made some strides in gaining back some of my endurance (and ability to WALK like a normal person) I still have a lot of toning and muscle building to do (and maybe a secret fantasy of looking like a Call on Me Girl from Eric Prydz music video).  So anyways, I was a little nervous of doing 60 minutes of intense BODY COMBAT, but told myself I would take it easy and listen to my body so I didn't overdo it...(which can be hard in class settings because with all the mirrors and other people, you want to push yourself and keep up with those around you).  My plan was foiled, the instructor came around and learned all of our names before class started.  So I started out doing pretty good but anytime I started to slow down a bit or not give it my all....he would call me out on the head set in front of the whole class "Candace, Don't STOP!"  "Candace Keep GOING!"  "Candace, You're SLOWING DOWN!!!"  or whatever it was, I actually couldn't really understand him because he had a really thick accent.....well, that was a bit embarrassing but worked, I freaking killed myself lol...so the past 3 days I've been recovering...seriously, I'm not just being a wimp!  (I pinky swear!)  But anyways, I'm probably going back this week...maybe I'm crazy...but maybe I need someone to embarrass my into kicking my own butt once a week to switch up my workout routine.

BUT.....for those of you who would prefer not to be embarrassed into kicking your own butt and  prefer to do it in the privacy of your own home....I have a surprise for you!

A BEACHBODY DVD GIVEAWAY!!!!

The lucky winner of this giveaway will get a brand spanking new, still in shrink wrap DVD of
