No One Likes a Frowny Face...

Lately our 4.5 year old has really been making an effort to perfect her unhappy mad face, just she she can express herself more clearly at any given opportunity.  It's been getting to be a little much and we were trying to explain to her that if she keeps making ugly faces, her face will stay that way and she will make ugly faces at people even when she doesn't mean to, and no one will see the kind, beautiful person she truly is.  So to help remind her, we told her she was going to have a warning first and then a time out anytime she makes one of those ugly faces.  Then I made this special mirror with her, I was planning to make it anyways just for fun, but decided to tell her it was for her to practice her nice faces.  So yesterday we put it together...

I picked up a purple feather boa and the hand mirror from the dollar store. The glitter is from the dollar store too...it came in her stocking.  we just hot glued the boa to the edges and also hot glued the edges of the mirror and added the glitter.  So far, seems to be helping...She's been proudly practicing :)

Glitter Spiderweb with Pom Spider

Glitter Yarn Spiderweb and Pom Spider
Halloween craft activity for kids

This was a super easy little Halloween project I did with my daughter.  She saw a sparkly spiderweb decoration at the craft store and wanted it but I wasn't trying to spend money on that so I told her we would make one when we got home.  We had some dark brown yarn so I cut the yarn into long strips and dipped it in glue and let her drop and arrange the sticky strands of yarn to create her spiderweb out in the garage on some cardboard.  When it was done but still wet, she sprinkled it with glitter.  It was her idea to have the long strand hanging down for a spider so I helped her make the spider, I made a pom out of the yarn (learned how to make those from the Mondo Pom Pillow Tutorial by Living with Punks) I meant to leave some longer strands of yarn for legs when trimming but oh well, kids think it's a good spider! :P  We had 3 goggly eyes so J put those on and we left one long strand and tied it to the spiderweb.  This was  a fun halloween activity for my kids, they had fun and J keeps asking to make more spiderwebs and spiders but we are out of glue!  Oh she also decorated it with her neon glitter glue sticks.

When the glitter spiderweb was totally dry the next morning, we just carefully peeled it up off the cardboard and hung it up on a tac.

Unicorn Canvas Art Knock Off from Rosenberry Rooms

Rosenberry Rooms Oopsey Daisy Knock Off
Unicorn Art for Girls Room

My new friend and neighbor redid her daughter's room this weekend while she was with her grandma to surprise her.  Her daughter really likes unicorns and so she found this unicorn art that she really liked on Rosenberry Rooms

I already had a 16 x 16 canvas on hand so I just had her pick out the tissue paper, cardstock and buttons she wanted me to use.  She also brought the funnies from the newspaper to use as the unicorn's mane, (her daughter loves to read the funnies) and the original unicorn artwork appears to be a page out of a phone book or something like that.  Here is my customized knock off version of the Rosenberry Room's Oopsey Daisy Fine Art for Kids Line.  I used yellow acrylic paint, modge podge, blue ink, glitter and hot glue for the buttons....

I added a bit of glitter here and there to bling it up a bit

I love the buttons she picked out for the Unicorn's Eyes

Check out the funnies....I love that feature

And when my 4 yo daughter saw me finishing this up, she begged to do one too.  We had these smaller canvases that she had previously painted on in her room that were just muddled paint colors so we added to that and together we made this one for her room and have another canvas she can't wait to make another one on...she had so much fun cutting pieces of paper and ribbons and painting on the modgepodge, dumping on the glitter...I helped very little...I got in trouble if I did any helping without her instruction! lol I actually really loved how she cut out diamonds with the blue paper and said they were stars and then made them sparkle with the glitter.....we haven't really done artwork together like this before and it was so fun to watch her mind work as it evolved.

Come back tomorrow to check out an awesome new giveaway!
