Scrappy Saturday and Tyrone Wells

Scrappy Saturday

Hey Hey!!! Happy Saturday!  Thanks for coming by and being part of the party!  And before getting down to business, I'm still super happy from thursday night when I got to see Tyrone Wells in concert.  He is such an awesome artist, with really great music that is positive, upbeat and just all around good listening! Great songwriting, singing, and playing! I heard him for the first time probably close to 6 years ago when on my way to Art History class at WSU and I heard some music coming from the CUB (cafeteria) and slipped in real quick to see what it was.  He happened to be singing one of my favorite songs by LIVE "Lightning Crashes" (yes while my friends were listening to MMMbop by Hansen I listened to Lightening Crashes by LIVE, Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins and Zombie by Cranberries on repeat...oh 7th grade...a good year) anyways, Tyrone was just amazing...so I was inspired to skip class and listen to the rest of his set.  He's come a long way since then, but still not nearly as well known as he should be!  SO, if you like finding new good music, and you haven't listened to him yet, check him out! Or just head over to Pandora and create a Tyrone Wells station :)

Tyrone Wells was nice enough to chat and take pictures!

He is currently touring with Joe Brooks who was also really talented with a great voice

PopEye the Stick Man

Meet PopEye the Stick Man
no relation to spinach sucking sailors

Today we had a BIG mess on the table of all our random arts and crafts supplies.  My 4 yo daughter and I decided to make a little puppet toy for her baby cousin when we found this red Popsicle stick and one big googly eye....hence the name....Popeye.....
J glued the eye on and then we were looking around out stash for some hair...hmmm..this blue octopus foam sticker turned upsidown looked fun and then all we needed was our pipe cleaners.

He makes a really fun pet

Popeye loves the outdoors

He knows how to drive

He's popular with the ladies

 He's housetrained

He's on top of the fresh breath thing

And he's very.....

studious....

He can teach your kids all about the number 8

Now he will make a very low maintence first pet for our baby belly dancing Rainbow Gotters.  J says her mommy and daddy will play peek-a-boo with him while Rainbow Gotters is in the crib and do puppet shows for her.

Who is Rainbow Gotters? (my newborn niece)  And yes she belly dances...

Freezie Pop Holder Sleeve - Easy Crafts with Kids

Sleeves for Freezies
don't freeze your fingers!

Nothing too new here, I saw these freezie holders  / sleeves all around blogland like two years ago and just never got around to making...like a million other cool things I see on all the great blogs out there.  After finishing those milk and cream jugs so quickly, my little crafting sidekick wanted to make something else so we whipped these up next....better late than never!

We started with these scrap squares, there were about 4 inch squares..left overs from the corners of a tie blanket.
We used some of the smaller pink scraps and cut out letters...very rough...nothing professional! It was just some fun mommy daughter time!

Folded the square in half and stiched a seam along the bottom and open side, leaving the top open...I cut the corner as pictured below...I don't know if it's really necessary though....Then flip them right-side-out---a good job for a little helper.  She also pre-folded in half them for me before sewing.

Then we used the glue gun and glued our letters on....And I don't know about you all, but I don't think I have EVER used my glue gun without burning myself..multiple times!

Nothing fancy, but as you can see, my product testers approve....

PS-Scrappy Saturdays is making a comeback!
Come back every weekend and join the linky party!

Milk & Cream for Play Kitchen - Upcycling

Let's Make a Cake!
we'll need some milk for the cake...some cream for the frosting...

I'm such a dork sometimes...I get compelled to save all kinds of packages and containers because they could potentially be used to make something cool.  Before our move, I was sorting through everything and found quite a bit a "trash" that I had saved around our apartment...and forgotten about...just adding clutter and I tossed it rather than packing it...albeit it wasn't easy....so when my husband was about to throw these two honey containers in the recycle, I stopped him and said "I could use those for something!" and he put them back on the counter...but I promised myself I wasn't going to let the junk sit around this time so without any further ado...I quickly used them for something...TADA...gotta love those projects that provide instant gratification!

Milk & Cream
for the play kitchen!
Those green baskets were also rescued from the recycle bin, our local grocery store sells strawberries in them.

soak the container in some soapy water so the label is easy to remove...
 Get your stuff...
modgepodge and brush
white paper
scissors
stick on craft letters (or use a marker to write the letters, or cut them out with construction paper or use your cricut or silhouette if you are a spoiled crafter! :P)

I trimmed a long strip of paper to fit the container to make a new label.
Brush modgepodge on container
Apply paper and press
stick on your craft letters...I had these stick on craft felt letters lying around, i bought them to make my halloween banner, but they were too small and I ended up cutting my own.
That's it! :)
I love when my daughter gets excited over stuff like this...a kid sized milk jug...I mean it was free and recycled and she gets new stuff to play with without being spoiled! lol!  WIN!
