Flower Accessories

The other night I went to a moms night out event in which there were a variety of activities set up for moms to enjoy while visiting and enjoying some grown-up time with other moms.  My friend from Melonbelly took me to this event and here are some of the things we made while gabbing up a storm!  We made a bunch of rings even though there were other crafts...I think we both just love burning ourselves with hot glue guns.

Here is a fabric flower ring, hmmm...might need some trimming...

(we started the 2-tone trend at the event!)

Here I was just experimenting with the supplies and made another ring.  I glued scrap fabric around a button, and then glued another button on top.

Then we found some flowers from a scrapbooking table and decided to make real flower rings...

We also made big sunflower hair clips.  I always wondered where people found those cute flower headbands or flower hair clips for their babies and little girls...they MADE them and it's so EASY!

And Last but not least, we made handmade greeting cards.  I'm not a great scrapbooker, but for this they provided samples and all the supplies so it actually turned out!

Anyways, these were all super easy, very simple crafts that just kept our hands busy while doing some girl bonding!

Playing with Kitty

Okay, so I've just been trying to catch up from all the stuff we've been doing this summer.  Here is a video of J playing with my brother's kitty named Riku at my parent's house, and yes, she's wearing her flower girl dress because she is obsessed with her "wedding dress".  When the baby gets a bit older we're going to have to get a kitty, she is a kitty LOVER!  One of her favorite FREE activities to do is go to the pet store and play with the kittens, which works for me, I like cats too....esspecially how low maintenance they are!

Also, I gave my husband a HAIRCUT last night.  Yep, an at home hair job...I was nervous to do it but he convinced and assured me that he was okay with getting a buzz cut if it didn't turn out.  I don't have a hair cutting kit so I had to use his beard trimmer and sewing scissors...and I have to admit I thought I might accidentally cut my finger off because they were a little BIG for cutting hair with...but...it worked out.  It actually didn't turn out too bad..no buzz cut needed!  I'll have to take a pic...it's not perfect...but it's not noticeably bad either...I'll post a before and after pic soon!  And my husband is so happy I was able to do it decently because now he doesn't have to pay to go to the barber anymore...lol....always the cheapo!

3 month Baby Pics and a Road Trip

Last weekend, first thing in the morning after getting home from a road trip with the family, I met with Studio Eleven Photography and the North Dallas Photography club for a infant photoshoot and here are a couple pics I got of the little guy, already 3 1/2 months! Whew it goes by fast (and if you've noticed, I haven't had many projects to post since he came along).

Here are some pics from our road trip, we tagged along with the hubby for work and it was great, we would swim or take naps at the hotel while he had meetings, then have dinners with people or just do fun stuff when he wasn't busy with appointments!

Killing time waiting for the famous bats to make an appearance.  She saw people jogging on the trail and decided to be a jogger too.

Well, I think they were a no show...it got so late and could keep the kids up any longer!

Skywatch Friday - Washington State Beach

I came across this on another blog and got excited because I've been wanting to show off some of my pictures from vacation this summer.  This is a sunset from the beach house my parents rented out for the whole family in Moclips, Washington.  I love photography and taking pictures, I dream about someday shooting with a Canon 5D or the like, getting a lot better and doing it professionally.  :)  If you click the pics they will open larger in a new window for better viewing :)  However, even these pics do the sunset no justice!

Be sure to click here to head over to SkyWatch Friday and see skies from all over the world!

I Might Lose it!

Do you ever feel like you could just lose it sometimes?  I used to pride myself on my endless amounts of patience and never losing my temper, but I can't really claim bragging rights to those traits anymore.  I've discovered  that I DO have those limits and more often than not, lately, I just feel like I'm trying to contain myself from throwing a major mommy temper tantrum!

It's not the 3 month old baby that is demanding, it's my 3 year old.  The only time I feel like she is not getting into trouble is when I'm giving her exactly 110% of my attention...which I do give her plenty of attention, but it's not possible to do that all the time!  Anyways...I'm just extra frustrated right now because (on top of the non-stop whining) yesterday was my big reorganize and clean day.  While my husband took her swimming yesterday evening, I emptied her dresser, sorted out her outfits, packed away ones that were too small and then neatly folded and organized her dresser...it was perfect. Well, not even 24 hours later, it's all a giant mess in the middle of her room.  I put her down for a nap, reading her stories, singing songs..then I went to feed the baby and get him down for a nap.  Well, Suddenly I had the urge to check on her and my instincts were right, she tore her room apart, emptied all her drawers and threw everything around.  I just get so frustrated because there is no reason and I feel like why do I even bother putting effort into organizing things or picking up when it won't last for more than a day or even an hour?  And I get frustrated and wonder why does she always seem to have the impulse to make huge messes and be destructive?  If she didn't want to sleep, she could play with her kitchen or other toys in her room, or look at books, but she rarely does that...instead she becomes a tornado and turns her entire room upside-down.

I just hate feeling like I'm getting after her a lot because that's not the kind of attention I want to give her and not the kind of attention I want her to seek.  Maybe all 3 year olds are like this...I hope so and that this phase will pass soon!

Corn on the Cob and a Tiny Lizard

(Family pic from our Road Trip to Austin this past week!)

Well, today I decided to switch it up and try something new with our $0.10 corn on the cob.  We always just boil it, then butter and salt.  Today, my hubby grilled the chicken (he always does because he's pretty particular when it comes to grilling) and I did the corn.  I'm not very brave when it comes to trying new things or just making something up on the spot and I'm sure this has been done before, but for me, I was just experimenting.  I husked the corn, then brushed it with EVOO and sprinkled with kosher salt.  We put it on the grill and grilled till tender (there wasn't any flame left on the charcoal so it didn't totally roast it).  When it was done, I sprinkled Parmesan cheese on it and WOW, I LOVED it!  It tasted so good with the olive oil, Parmesan and had a nice smokey flavor from the BBQ.  So anyways, I didn't bother taking pictures but it was a great way to switch things up a bit!  YUM!  I have to go buy more of that corn and make it like that again ASAP!

Oh...and now we have a lizard living in our living room!  We have this chimney thing for starting the briquetts for the charcoal grill....and I got it from our patio and was carrying it through the apartment to take out front (cuz it's illegal to bbq on our patio)...and right in the middle of the living room...something fell out of it and started running around and I sarted screaming and trying to figure out what it was and whether I should smash it with the chimney....I was moving like a giant centipede but looked kind of like a bigger bug...I thought maybe a roach or giant ear wig! J had just found the strawberries I had bought today and was bringing them to me to open and when she saw it,  she started freaking out and screaming too and threw the container of strawberries in the air which popped open and strawberries went everywhere.  Then the thing ran onto the entertainment center and I saw it was a little lizard...It quickly ran behind the TV...so yeah...I don't think we'll find it.  The rest of the night, J kept asking about the "wizard" and where it was, and saying "Wizard scared me, I drop strawberries on the ground like a flower girl" (she was recently a flower girl in our friends' wedding a month ago).

Any little thing tonight is going to give me the heeby jeebies...I'm going to be paranoid about it crawling around us in our sleep!  lol!  It's a really tiny fast little sucker!  I'll freak out if I wake up and it's on B's face in the middle of the night! When J was 3 months old, I was taking her to JCPenny for her pictures...and I was pushing her in her stroller to the car from our apartment and happened to look down and there was an HUGE spider right on her face!  Washington gets some pretty big spiders...I think they are called wolf spiders...anyways, I grabbed it by one of the legs and flung it off her...I felt so sick and desturbed I almost cried and wanted to cancel our appointment...lol.  If that lizard does the same thing...oh man...I hope not!

So my advice of the day is to TRY yourCorn on the Cob my new way and SHAKE anything that has been outside before bringing it inside just in case there may be any tiny reptiles hiding inside!

Peach Ice Cream

'Tis the season...for some Amazingly Refreshingly Delicious Homemade Peach Ice Cream!

If I haven't mentioned it before, my husband is sort of a pizza fanatic....hardly anything comes close to his love and craving for a good New Haven style pizza like Sally's or Modern, aside from his love of peaches.  He loves peaches...what can I say.  His favorite kind of milkshake is Peach...his favorite ice cream? Peach...his favorite dessert? Peach Crisp...so anyhoo...now that peaches are starting to come in where we are...he's been going sorta crazy searching high and low for some good ripe peaches.  Finally he found some this week he found ripe enough to buy and came home and made peach crisp immediately.  That was yesterday, today he moved on to making his yummy Peach Ice Cream.

Now, I'm not peach crazy like him...I've never been a huge fan of sweet fruity desserts..just give me something chocolatey or mocha-y.  But I must admit I'm a huge fan of his peach ice cream.  It's SO good and doesn't have that sicky sweet taste that most "fruity" ice creams from the store have.  It's rich and creamy yet refreshing with it's fruity flavor.

1 pint heavy whipping cream
1 pint half & half
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
5 ripe pureed peaches
1 ripe peach diced

In a mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream, half & half, sugar and vanilla.  Mix until sugar is dissolved.  Skin and remove pits from peaches.  Puree 5 peaches and add to the cream mixture and blend.  Cover bowl with cream mixture and store in fridge to chill.  Once the mixture is chilled, pour it into your ice cream maker and let it do it's thing. When it is almost finished, carefully mix in the diced peach pieces.  Store your ice cream in a airtight container in the freezer and enjoy!

oh yeah-my hubby just made it up so there was too much of the ice cream mixture to fit into our ice cream maker...so we'll just keep it in the fridge, refreeze the bowl and make a second batch to finish it up.
